Satavahanas, Siri Sati, Copper, 9.56g, “Elephant” type from Lower Narmada Valley, Obv: Elephant with trunk raised facing left, Brahmi legend “…ño Siri Sati(sa)” above, Rev: Ujjain symbol with one orb modified as a Nandipada; counterstruck by a motif of lion jumping to the right. Very fine, extremely rare. A very rare example of revalidating an older coin by placing an animal countermark. Usually the countermarks are symbolic.
