Tipu Sultan, Silver Rupee, 11.67g, Dharwad Mint, AM 1216 ‘Shad’ / RY 6 ‘Sakh’, first year of issue after Tipu wrested Dharwad from the Marathas in the second Anglo-Mysore war, Obv: Persian legend “Huw al-Sultan al-Wahid al-Adil Tarikh Julus Sal Sakh Sooyim Bahari sanah 6 Julusi”, Rev: Persian legend “Muhammad Ahmad Deen dar Jahan ast Roshan ze Fateh Haidar H Imami Zarb Dharwar Sal Shad sanah 1216” (Not listed in Henderson). About very fine, exceedingly rare. Dharwad is possibly the rarest mint for Tipu’s silver coinage. It remained under his control for a few years. Only two or three specimens
