Mahmud bin Muhammad Tughluq, Gold Tanka, 10.68g, Arabic legend on both sides, Obv: “Mahmud Shah bin Muhammad Shah bin Tughlaq Shah al-Sultan”, Rev: “Yameen Amir al-Mumineen Ghiyath al-Duniya wa al-Din Abu al-Muzaffar” (G&G# D455). Very fine, rare. The minister Khwaja-i Jahan, who was unaware that Firuz Tughlaq had declared himself the claimant to the throne while campaigning in Sindh, installed Mahmud for a short while after the death of Muhammad bin Tughluq. Upon his return to Delhi, Firuz deposed Mahmud to end his reign.
