Western Gangas of Talakadu, Anonymous Gold Gajapati Varaha- Hon, 3.92g, “Elephant” type, Obv: Caparisoned Elephant, standing facing right, Kannada legend “(Ka)laki” above the back, Rev: Ornamental floral scroll (Mitch# 193). About uncirculated, very rare. The legend ‘Kalki’ might refer to the 10th incarnation of Vishnu. Figural representation of the ten Avataras of Vishnu was used as some sort of dating code on Hoysala and other coins. Perhaps this is a similar instance.
