Nawanagar, Jam Vibhaji, Copper Weight 5 Gadyana, 31.68g, VS 1947. Very interesting, extremely fine, rare. “Gadyana”, also spelled as “Gadiana” was a local Gujarati/ Kathiawadi weight standard. The name of the weight is believed to be derived from a gold coin of that name, weighing roughly 4.15 g, that dates back at least to the eleventh century. Very little is known about the gadhyana as a weight, and its value seems to deviate from that of the same-named coin. The guddiana is mentioned as a weight for weighing gold and silver, at Anjar, Gujarat. The guddiana was equal to 89.5 grains, and thus
