Post-Gupta Bengal, Samatata (c. AD 600), Gold Dinar,(5.6gms) Early type Samatata coin with legend. Unpublished. Obv King facing left holding bow with left hand and arrow with right hand, standard with conch shell in left field; Rev Lakshmi standing right, illegible inscription in right field (Rhodes & Bose, fig. 1 var). These early types, itself very scarce, usually appear without any legend but this coin bears a legend that probably reads ‘Sri’, under the left arm of the King. This is completely different from the later commoner coins, which are more debased and artistically much cruder,
