Copper Paisa, 8.53g, “Fish” type Braj region, in the name of Shah Alam II, Balsana Mint. Very fine, rare. A copper coin of Balsana mint was published by Barry Tabor in JONS. Balsana or Barsana is an important site in the Braj pilgrimage circuit (Parikrama) and has mythological associations in the lore of Krishna to be the birthplace of Radha, his muse. The coin are most likely struck under the authority of the Jat rulers of Bharatpur and served as part of ‘pilgrim economy’.
