Jahangir, Silver, Noor Afsan/ Nisar, 0.50g, Lahore Mint, AH 1034. Patinated, very fine for type, extremely rare. Largesse coins were struck to order for scattering to deflect the ‘evil eye’ where the king was exposed to one, in events which demanded his public appearance like court rituals or processions. They usually conform to a denomination standard, but not necessarily so – sometimes they were struck at random weight depending on the quantity of metal consigned for the purpose and the number of coins needed. This appears to be one such coin, where the weight, 0.50 gm comes close to 1/20th
