Phulgaon, Silver Rupee, 11.08g, ‘Ankushi’ type, in the name of Shah Ali Gauhar struck at Phulgaon, fictitious RY 11 (M&W# T1). Very fine+, extremely rare. Phulgaon, located on the Bheema River to the East of Pune, caught fancy of Bajirao II, the Maratha Peshwa in 1812and he decided to make it a pleasure resort. He encouraged several Brahmin families to settle there and ordered construction of mansions and markets. As a part of this urbanisation scheme a mint also appears to have been run at Phulgaon.
