Victoria Queen, Proof, Gold, Five Rupees, 3.93g, 1870, Calcutta Mint, Obv: Crowned & finely featured & smaller robed bust to left, “C.M.” in relief in the centre of the line of the truncation, English legend “VICTORIA QUEEN”, Rev: English legend & date “FIVE/ RUPEES/ INDIA/ 1870” within a beaded circle, outside the circle & within a beaded ring a ten pointed star with entwined scroll- work (Prid# 40). Brilliant, extremely rare. Initial C.M. are for Calcutta Mint apparently intended to replace the royal mint design.
