Nizams of Hyderabad, Silver Rupee, 11.05g, “Broad flan”, Nanded Mint, in the name of Alamgir II, AH 117X/ RY 7. Patinated, extremely fine, exceedingly rare. The town of Nanded is a holy site for the Sikhs as the place where Sri Guru Gobind Singhji declared the holy Granth Sahib as the final ‘Guru’ of the sect. In mid- 18th century Nanded was a part of the kingdom of the Nizam of Hyderabad, although the surrounding area was contested heavily between him and the Marathas. This is only the second piece known of this exceedingly rare mint. The first was published by Dr. Shailendra Bhandare in JONS
