Shah Jahan, Gold Mohur, 10.90g, “Kalima” type, Kabul Mint, RY 5. Extremely fine, exceedingly rare. The provincial capital of Kabul became a vantage point for the Mughals to keep a close eye on Central Asia and Iran. Shah Jahan often travelled to Kabul and stayed there to conduct ‘hunting expeditions’ in the countryside, which were the equivalent of today’s military exercises. Coins of this type have been listed on ‘Zeno.ru’ as ‘date off’ however comparing with silver issues of the same type it is evident that the RY appears just above the ‘Be’ of ‘Shihab’ on obverse.
