Aurangzeb captured Bijapur earlier on during his Deccan campaign of 1684 onwards and subsequently it became the seat of a Mughal province. It was an important centre of activities during the Mughal campaign against the Marathas which lasted till the death of Aurangzeb. During these years he often stationed himself in or around Bijapur.
