Canteen Token, At the end of the shift the workers, on departing, were issued the token which were equivalent to the day’s wage. They could exchange them at the office for cash. In most cases it was the local shopkeepers who use to exchange them as they sold goods against the tokens. This system continued till the early 1960s when the various acts like P.F., bonus etc. were strictly implemented and maintaining attendance records became mandatory.
