Almeida, Rectangle Silver Medal, 283.93g, Obv: Full length of the viceroy in European attire, with legend “I VICE REI DA INDIA”, Rev: legend in Portuguese citing the various achievements of the time, with crest and date 1505-1509. Extremely fine, rare. Almeida is credited with establishing Portuguese Hegemony in the Indian Ocean, with his victory at the naval Battle of Diu in 1509.
