Pre- Satavahana period, Deccan- Khandesh region, Uninscribed, Alloyed Copper, 1.10g, “Chariot” type, Obv: chariot drawn by two horses facing left, small symbols around, Rev: Traces of lotus symbol within rectangular border. Uncleaned, very fine, very rare. The depiction of a chariot-rider on these coins, in context with the lotus symbol on reverse, can be identified as the Vedic goddess ‘Shri’ guised in the form of ‘Usha’ or primordial brightness. This is in agreement with the appearance of the lotus on the reverse as a Sun-related symbol.
