Arkat Mint, Silver Double Rupee, 23.81g, in the name of Alamgir II, AH 1172/ RY 2, Oblique Milling, Obv: AH 1172, “Muhammad Aziz ud din Alamgir Badshah Ghazi, Sikka Mubarak”, Rev: “Zarb Arkat, Sanah 2, Julus, Maimanat Manus”. About very fine, extremely rare. First European style issue. A proclamation 15th July 1807 gave currency of a double Rupee, Rupee, Half and Quarter and Silver Five, Three, Two and One Fanams. It ordered that they should be coined direct from imported Spanish Dollars. The dies for this coin were prepared in the Madras Mint.
