Guptas, Kumara Gupta, Gold Dinar, 8.18g “Horseman” type, Obv: King riding caparisoned Horse carrying a bow Brahmi legend around Rev: Nimbate Goddess seated in profile on a stool feeding peacock Brahmi legend “Ajitamahendra” to right and a tamgha in left field (S Kumar# Class III, Variety F.1, Altekar Class II variety D). Double struck on reverse. Very fine+, extremely rare. The obverse strike of this rare variety of the ‘horseman’ type coins of Kumara Gupta is exceptional & showpiece of Gupta Art. The obverse legend celebrates the king as the ‘Indra’ on the face of the Earth.
