Akbar, Silver Shahrukhi, 4.55g, countermarked on a Tanka of Shaybanid ruler Iskandar Bahadur Khan, Shermard Balkh Mint, AH 983, Obv: Kalima in octagonal cartouche; names and titles of caliphs around, Rev: In a mihrab-shaped double cartouche the name of Iskandar Bahadur Khan, other titles around, mint name below; countermarked Adl Akbar 983 in a pearl-drop shaped cartouche. Very fine+ extremely rare. A rare example of a tanka of Balkh, a mint on the Oxus river, being used as a host coin for ‘Adl Akbar’ ( = ‘the standard / law of Akbar’) countermark.
