
Chalukyas of Badami, Gold Varaha- Gadyana, 3.81g, “Lion” type, Obv: Majestic maned Lion standing facing right, with paw raised, a roaring mouth and curved tail; floral scroll to right, Rev: Chalukya temple with short Phamsana-style Vimana and four stylized pillars. A half-lotus motif in the centre suggests a Vaishnava affiliation. At the base of the temple, other architectural elements, like chandrasheela or ‘moon stone’, a flight of stairs and base of the Mandapa are also shown (Mitch# 258-260).
