Muhammad bin Sam, Gold Tanks, 4.20g, “Lakshmi- Bayana series” type, Obv: stylized Lakshmi seated facing, Rev: Devanagari legend Sri Ma ha / mi ra Ma ha / ma da Sa ma in three lines (Deyell 253). Very fine, rare. Muhammad bin Sam returned to the Indian frontier again around 1196 to consolidate his hold in what is present-day Rajasthan. The territory of Bayana at the time was under the control of a sect of Yaduvanshi Rajputs. Muhammad, along with Qutb ud-Din Aibak, advanced and besieged Thankar whose ruler Kumara Pala was defeated. Muhammad placed the fort under his senior slave Bahauddin Tughri
