This exceptionally preserved Nisar is matched by two similar pieces - one in the British Museum and the other in Ashmolean Museum. It most likely coincides with a special Darbar held by Shah Jahan in which he officially declared his son Dara Shikoh as his successor, awarding him the title ‘Buland Iqbal’ or ‘of firmest fortune’.
