Ancient Malwa, Aulikaras of Mandasor - Feudatories of Guptas, Lead, 8.58g Obv: Lotus in centre Brahmi legend “Jitam Bhagavata Vishnunam” (“Conquered by Lord Vishnu”) around Rev: Ornate Shrivatsa symbol. Extremely fine for type extremely rare. These coins are reportedly found at Mandasor, the capital of the Aulikaras, a feudatory dynasty to the Guptas. They are struck anonymous, acknowledging only Vishnu and referring to his ‘conquest’. It probably has political undertones – Yashodharman of the Aulikara dynasty is known to have defeated the Hunas.
