Maharathis in Central Maharashtra, Varuni Maharathis, (c. 175-200AD), Copper, 4.79g, Obv: Bold punch with symbol consisting of a triangle-headed standard, flanked by a circle and a hook, and four Swastikas at cardinal points, Rev: Obliterated (Unpublished in major publications). Extremely fine, extremely rare. The ‘circle and hook’ was a characteristic symbol of the Varuni Maharathis who appear to have struck an independent coinage in Central Maharashtra towards the end of second century AD.
