Pre Satavahanas, Ancient North-Central Deccan region, Katahadi, Copper, 7.09g, “Elephant” type, Obv: Elephant walking to right, wavy line (river) with traces of aquatic animals below; Brahmi legend Katahadisa above, Rev: Bold Nandipada, a circle to its left; traces of Swastika above (Not listed in PAIC). Patinated, very fine+, very rare. The name ‘Katahadi’ was earlier read as ‘Kutapada’. He appears to be an important pre- Satavahana ruler in Central Maharashtra who extended his sway towards the South-East as evident from finds and typology of his coins.
